Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation which is able to better seal walls, floors, and ceilings against air movement when compared to other types. Developed in the mid 80s, it is now popular insulation material and many home owners are now switching over to spray foam rather than the traditional insulation such as fiberglass.
As the name implies, it’s sprayed onto or into an open cavity and then expands into the area. It never loses its shape, compresses, or sags over time. It can fill in gaps, cracks, and crevices. Spray Foam comes in two types known as Open Cell and Closed Cell.
Many people today are using or switching over to Spray Foam Insulation. It has many more benefits when compared to traditional insulation.
The air-tight seal prevents the infiltration of outside dirt and dust as well as drafts and mold growth. It can provide better air quality for your home and is more safer and eco friendly than traditional insulation. It will also help add sturdiness to your home or structure.
Depending on your needs you may need either Open Cell or Closed Cell.
Open Cell is spongier and less dense than closed cell.
The R-value (which means how well it insulates) is low. It’s better suited for interior walls and excellent for sound proofing. It is also the cheaper of the two.
Closed Cell is sturdier and denser than open cell. It doesn’t allow moisture or air to get through and has a higher R-value which is better suited for insulating your home.
